Radyoterapi, yüksek enerjili iyonizan radyasyon ile kanser tedavisi, multidisipliner onkolojik yaklaşımın ayrılmaz temel parçasıdır. Bu çerçevede dersin amacı radyasyon ile tedavinin prensipleri, bir radyoterapi kliniğinin yapısı ve çalışanları, radyoterapide kullanılan cihazlar, radyoterapinin diğer kanser tedavi yöntemleriyle kullanımı, radyasyonla kanser tedavisinin kısa ve uzun dönemdeki yan etkileri hakkında bilgi vermektir.

Biological fundamentals of radiotherapy, dose-time-volume relationship in radiotherapy, basic radiotherapy physics, structure and staff of a radiotherapy clinic, radiotherapy devices, principles of radioprotection in radiation oncology, effects of radiotherapy on normal tissue and tumor tissue, site-related radiotherapy applications (organs and system), modern radiotherapy techniques, specific radiotherapy applications (craniospinal axis, whole-body / half body irradiation, STR, brachytherapy), the combination of radiotherapy with surgery-chemotherapy and immunotherapy, acute and side effects related to radiotherapy, palliation ad supportive care in radiotherapy, emergencies in radiotherapy will be discussed.
